SHAOLIN- The beginning
The first shaolin temple was built in 495A.D. in Honan Province. This temple housed buddhist monks (never mention females, but they were there)duty's of translating buddhist scriptures from sanskrit into Chinese. A Indian (Prince) named Bodhidharma arrived at Shaolin Temple, he noticed the monks, physically and mentally unable to deal with daily task and Zen mediation. He taught the a exercises based on animals, mediation exercises and stretching with correct emphasis on breathing, gain enlightment from direct experience, knowledge and higher philosophies, many more temples and monasteries were built, Some function as guesthouse, hospitals, orphanages, (travelers and refugees), still Martial Arts were expanding and evolving.
For the next thousand years China's competing groups and Dynasties were constantly opposing rule. the temples were rodded, and burned, in the final years of Ming Dynasty, official corruption, power struggles, and wars ultimately china itself against Japan brought the nation to bankruptcy, famine all cross the country, with the Government neglect, sparked a massive peasant rebellion ( THE GREAT BOXER REBELLION ) that brought the Ming rule to end. The Manchu's from the north had long waited to gain control of the turmoil in China, launched a invasion, waste no time in defeating the (BOXER REBELLION) in June 1644, marched into the ming Capital, claiming it their own, the Manchu's (Qing Dynasty) ruled from 1644 to 1911, after their takeover began destroying all the temples.
THE (5)FIVE ELDERS
Ming soldiers and sympathizers posed as monks and lived in the sanctuary of the temples, where they trained to overthrow the Manchu's. The combat systems was being taught, based on animal movements, needed to progressive mastery at temples, Shaolin Grandmaster developed a new system(s), distilling vast range of techniques, when the Manchu's invaded the Temple, only Five(5) monks escaped.

Each a Grandmaster in their own styles, The Buddhist Nun Ng Mui, the only woman took refuge in The White Crane Temple in Yunnan, China. She visited regularly to a nearby village for supplies, became friendly with a shopkeeper, his name was Yim Yee and his daughter Yim Wing Chun. One day the Abbottess Ng Mui came upon a scene, a local bully was trying to forcibly take Yim Wing Chun as his wife. Nun Ng Mui suggested a challenge, with one year to prepare, they would meet again to fight. The bully laughed, after all, he was a master of Eagle Claw Kung Fu, and Yim Wing Chun was a delicate young girl, in total confidence he agreed, and Yim Wing Chun trained in the mountains with Abbottess Ng Mui,day and night. On the day of challenge- Yim Wing Chun beat her opponent- The Abbottess Ng Mui entrusted this newly devised system to it namesake-making her legacy, the Abbottess Ng Mui went traveling thru out China, she created other systems and styles. And this is the birth or SHAOLIN WING CHUN KUNG FU...................................
